HopeWorks website resurrected by EaRN |
HopeWorks, an initiative funded during 2003 and 2004 by the US Department of Labor’s Center for Faith and Community Based Initiatives, has not been able to continue operation. However, the HopeWorks project website lives on through EaRN Employment and Resource Network.
The initial HopeWorks Project provided computers with Internet access to organizations committed to serve the unemployed persons in their neighborhoods. Volunteers are still needed to coach and encourage new computer users at neighborhood locations in learning how to access Internet based employment and job seeking resources, such as the Michigan Talent Bank job/resume posting system, CareerMatrix.com, and other helpful links.
The HopeWorks initiative also developed training and a website that specifically aimed to help the volunteer and new user navigate these sites.
Ken Soper, Thornapple Evangelical Covenant Church member and Principal, Soper Taber Group in Grand Rapids, has been given control of the website as one of its EaRN ministry efforts.
Ken stated, "we hope is to expand the information on the site as well as find other faith and community based organizations who would like to support and affiliate with the effort." |
