We Need You as a Volunteer!

The HopeWorks project affiliate organizations have
computer resources, and persons coming to their office for
help in finding a job.
What they desperately need are volunteers willing to come to
their facility and help job seekers use the computer to search
for
employment information.
Most persons coming to a HopeWorks location for help in finding
a job do not have basic computer skills. They can not use these
internet resources because they have no idea of what the Windows
operating system is, and they are intimidated by this new technology.
They need someone to:
- Welcome them to the site, actively listen to their request
for help, ask some basic questions about the sort of job they
want, or why they have come in for assistance.
- Suggest employment resources that are relevant
to this goal
- Sit down with them at the computer and operate
the machine on their behalf,
- Take them to appropriate sites on the web, type
in information for a resume or job application, and suggest
other resources that might be of help to them.
We invite you to be that someone.
The requirements to do this job are very basic:
- You need a basic knowledge of how to operate a personal computer
and how to use a web browser.
- You need to have a desire to help persons who are unemployed
or underemployed.
- You need a friendly smile and a sympathetic ear.
The hours of participation for a volunteer are very flexible.
You can commit to working as little as two hours a day once a
week.
Your commitment is limited to sitting at the computer and helping
the job seeker access and understand information available on
the internet. You do not need to go with, or take the person
to, job interviews.
If this sounds interesting to you, give us a call or send an
e-mail.
